This is a model of a forgotten house on Winder Street in Detroit, Michigan. It was built by an unknown architect in 1872 as a somewhat naive, provincial example of what is now called French Second Empire, which was the popular style in America after the Civil War. The model was made from photographs and from first-hand observation of the structure in a burnt-out state (below) shortly before it was demolished. Some elements of the model are pure conjecture as they were long gone. The house stood as a reminder of the drastic changes which took place in the world around it.
